2. Social Director report. January event will be the boat show. February event will be Saturday the 2nd at Joe Onofrio’s to watch the America’s Cup, it will be potluck. Information to the membership will be on the web site per Griggs. March event will be a wine and cheese party similar to last year at Onofrio Piano, date and details to be determined. April event will be a race kick off party at Chatfield, date and details to be determined.

3. Treasurer’s report - Moreland. Handed out statements. Has not been able to hand over Treasurer materials to new treasurer as of yet. Club has a loss of approximately two thousand dollars this past year. Discussion on causes and solutions. Burger price to go up to two dollars a burger instead of one dollar. There has been a loss every year for pig roast, price per person should be increased to compensate. Motion by Onofrio/Wilson to approve treasurer’s report. Discussion on sales license for non-profit business. Motion carried unan.

4. Old Business.

Leukemia Cup - Malouff Event will be cancelled for this year by the Leukemia Society. Mark Boulding would like his e-mailed comments on this event in the record. (See Attached) Boulding then read his e-mail. Discussion on larger sponsors, altruistic fund raising, donations and prizes, and national sponsors. Discussion on what can be done to continue the Leukemia Cup Regatta, the weather anchor challenge, and the fact that nationally the regattas may also be discontinued. Discussion on community service projects, we only have the Leukemia Cup Regatta and youth sailing.

Burgee report - Malouff. Burgees are still not received and no contact from the vendor at this time. Malouff has sent letter demanding burgees or full reimbursement no later that January 15th, 2008. If burgees or reimbursement have not been received by this date charges will be filed with local authorities, the FTC and the Post Office. Due to the amount being in excess of one thousand dollars this is considered a felony and will be pursued by governing authorities.

Boat show report - Dawson. We will have signs, model boat or boats, rolling powerpoint, video by Shelton’s, and some things for the kids but the main focus will be on membership. Volunteers are signing up and all spots should be filled. He will be sending an information packet to all volunteers. Kline will get Dawson the sign for boat types. Dawson will be handling the setup and take down. Meyer will have a youth sailing poster for Dawson. The booth will have electricity and there will be a sign making it clear you do not need to own a boat.

Youth sailing report - Meyer. Vance Meyer and perhaps Joe Malouff will be taking a course at Cherry Creek for youth sailing instructor certification. It is a forty hour course to become certified, with a pre-requisite of motor boating. Moreland - Should club subsidize some of the expense for these courses? Discussion on expenses, requirements and a youth regatta to be held at Chatfield this year. A one day youth regatta, twenty one years and younger, to be held at Chatfield, some time in July. Malouff will check the calendar.

5. New Business.

Buddy - Monday night informal racing needs to have more publicity as an alternative or as practice for the Wednesday night racing. Discussion on adding it to the calendar, not charging for these races, and listing it as informal practice racing. Malouff will add it to the brochure and asked Buddy to provide an article on Monday night racing.

Malouff - The website has been moved, he is working on transferring files. We also have 150 e-mail addresses available on the website, for those who wish to have one send an e-mail requesting one to Malouff. The website will have a shared address book for those with e-mail addresses. Discussion on message boards being more accessible.

Moreland will put together race notification by March to meet the sixty day requirement.

Discussion on Sail tour races. Should we open the Fagawi to all racers? Should May regatta be club only? Burley - Park authorities may not approve evening race if open to all racers. Wilson - wants May race taken off the tour schedule, too many races at beginning of year and unfair advantage for Chatfield racers. Discussion to open May regatta to all racers but exclude from the sail tour. Discussion on regatta schedule.

Sail meeting seminar to be February 13th, 2008 at Brooklyn’s.

Website calendar updates will be done by Griggs.

Directory information verifications and photos should be sent to Malouff.

6. Race Directors report - Chinburg. Will be getting larger marks. Onofrio will provide fifty five gallon drums.

Motion to adjourn by Moreland/Boulding. Carried unan.

Adjourned 2000.

Bob,

Thank you for reopening the Leukemia Cup Regatta discussion. I support

CS&YC in offering to host the Regatta this year. These are some of the

reasons to continue our association:

1) It is a good cause that helps many people that might include any one of

us or our loved ones some day. For many of us, it has already impacted our

lives.

2) It is a unique event that fosters fellowship and gives us meaning and a

sense of identity that not only gives us cohesion as a club but gives us a

sense of belonging with the wider community of sailors. Sailors all over the

world recognize the Leukemia Cup Regatta.

3) The Leukemia Cup Regatta lends legitimacy and national status to the

sailing community of Colorado.

4) The regatta is a long term investment for CSYC with long term gains that

ought not be sold short.

5) We have grown the regatta every year in participation, publicity, and

fund raising and not to build on that is to throw it away.

6) The regatta is important to recruiting new members and retaining members.

7) We are good at doing this event and have a lot of experience with it.

8) With two years of media interest due to the Weather Anchor Challenge, we

have a better case to make to potential sponsors.

9) If we do it, it will grow. If we don't do it, it may very well die.

If it is a matter of our pride, I think we should rise above hurt pride. It

is easy to be mad because our efforts haven't been appreciated, but we need

to remember it is not LLS that matters in that regared as much as the people

they serve. It is tempting to want to quit before we are fired. I think we

should rise above that. We haven't been fired yet. And I say let's not

give them another reason to abandon this regatta for another golf classic.

I will admit that the LLS seems to have handled us rather badly, but we

should not let just a few personality conflicts torpedo an event that helps

define us as a club and as a community in such a positive way.

See you at the meeting tonight.
